What is an iPad?
The iPad is a line of tablet computers designed, developed and marketed by Apple primarily as a platform for audio-visual media including books, periodicals, movies, music, games, and web content. Its size and weight falls between those of contemporary smartphones and laptop computers. The iPad runs the same operating system as the iPod Touch and iPhone, and can run its own applications as well as iPhone applications. Without modification, and with the exception of web applications, it only runs programs approved by Apple and distributed via the AppStore.
Like iPhone and iPod Touch, the iPad is controlled through a multi touch display, a departure from most previous tablet computers, which used a pressure-triggered stylus as well as a virtual onscreen keyboard in lieu of a physical keyboard. The iPad uses a Wi-Fi data connection to browse the Internet, load and stream media, and install software. Some models also have a 3G wireless data connection that can connect to data networks. The device is managed and synced by iTunes on a personal computer via USB cable.
A business tool
Indeed, even if some users see the iPad as a gaming device, the latest Apple's creation is a powerful and highly efficient tool to view, analyse and interact with critical business information on the go. The iPad is definitely much more business focused and productivity oriented than most people think. It may be the device that will change how mobile workers conduct business. It is more mobile than a laptop and more powerful than a smartphone, which means that it will take the business world by storm. 10 hour long battery life, a 1024x768 pixels display and a light weight, all of that contributes to making the iPad a powerful business tool.
Anyone who is never seen without a notepad or clipboard will adopt the iPad. Simultaneous tracking of several info flows makes it a far more convenient working tool for brokers and stock analysts. Business users now do not have to decide which scheme, graph or chart is more important to leave on the screen. A quick connection to the enterprise warehouses, as well as on-line invoice compiling facilitates and speeds up the whole sales process. Sales and marketing people will also appreciate the ability to hook up the iPad to a projector and launch a full-scale presentation.
